The Hillsboro Hawks Girls Track and Field team jumped to the other side of Highway A to take on rival Festus, as well as 10 other schools, on Tuesday April 13th in the Tiger Town Invitationals. The Hawks took third place when it all was said and done, thanks to several personal bests.
Head Coach Dina Holland praised her team’s performance, saying “I have been so proud of these girls and how they have performed all season. Maya Wright dominated in the 100 and 300 hurdles again taking the title in both.” Wright has been a force of nature in her hurdle events this year, never missing a podium in any of the meets so far.
Evie Roland had her personal best throw of the season, taking 3rd in Javelin with a distance of 32.62 meters. Hailey Genge placed 1st in Shot Put with a distance of 9.97 meters, while Cassidy Herget took 2nd in high jump, clearing 1.47 meters.
“Krista Miller, our mighty Freshman jumper, took home 1st in the triple and 2nd in the long. Lauren Nichols ran the 400 for the first time of the season and ended up in 2nd place. Kayla VanHorn was 2nd in the 300 hurdles. We had a great night of personal bests!” said Holland.
The Hawks travel down to Cape Girardeau this Saturday April 17th for the Cape Central Invitational, but have a very quick turnaround, hosting the Hillsboro, Herculaneum, DeSoto Tri-Meet on Monday April 19th.
