Ste. Gen Girls Wrestling Wins Gold in Seckman Tourney

Placing first out of at 16 schools, the Dragons win the Seckman Women’s Tournament, while all six wrestlers come home with medals.

On Saturday, January 30, the Ste. Genevieve Dragons Girls Wrestling team entered six grapplers into the Seckman Women’s tournament. All six wrestlers came home with hardware, including three Golds, one Silver and two Bronze Medals. The Dragons bested fifteen other schools and won the tournament outright.

Wresting at the 107 lb. weight class, Paityn Basler placed third with an 0-2 record. Basler was down on her results, but said, “I’m really looking forward to working the hardest I can this week to hopefully do a lot better at Districts.”

At 112, Brynna Wehner placed third with a 1-2 record, with one pin victory.

Autumn Basler, at 117, placed second with a 2-1 record, scoring two pins.

At 122, Dakotah Medows won first place winning two matches, both by pin.

Isabel Basler, at 127, also won first place winning three matches, all by pin.

Lastly, at 195, Maggie Myracle went 2-0 winning first place with both wins coming by pin. Myracle mentioned a highlight of the day, “In the second match I was very offensive and took a shot and got the pin. The match went smoothly, which felt great!” She went on, “Before districts I will be focusing on being quick to get to a shot.”

The Girls Varsity team will have one week to prepare for the final battle of the season, the district tournament, taking place next weekend on February 5th.
