It’s not breaking news that the Ste. Genevieve Dragons face a very tough football schedule annually. The team always deals with a challenging non-conference schedule, and the MAFC White division is always bruising. In 2020, SGHS faces a very difficult five game road schedule that will surely test the squad.
The team opens at home against the Festus Tigers on August 28. The Tigers finished 5-6 last season. Following that game, the Dragons face back-to-back road games that would rival any in the state. On September 4, the annual rivalry game against Valle will be played on the Warriors home turf. Valle ran off 12 straight wins last year to take the Class 1 state title and finish the year 14-1. Then on September 11, it’s another trip to Kennett where Ste. Gen’s season ended in 2019 in the district title game. The Indians made it to the Class 3 state semifinals and ended the season with a 13-1 record.
Its back home for a couple of games on September 18 against Potosi (6-5) and September 25 when SGHS hosts Fredericktown (3-7). The squad will play away from home on October 2 at Central Park Hills (7-4), and Perryville (5-5) on October 9. The regular season will end with a home game on October 16 against DeSoto, and then a road contest at Brentwood (6-6). The district playoffs begin on October 30.
