The Jefferson Blue Jays will be on the road more than at home during the 2020 football regular season. A look at the I-55 master schedule released yesterday shows Jefferson will play five out of nine regular season games on the road beginning August 28.
The Blue Jays, who finished 5-5 in 2019, will open at Fredericktown on August 28. The Blackcats finished with a 3-7 record last year. The first home game will be the following Friday, September 4, against Cuba, a team that was 5-6 in 2019.
An away game at Herculaneum (2-8) on September 11 will be followed by a big showdown at home against St. Pius (8-3) on September 18. A road game at Bayless (2-8) precedes another huge home game on October 2 against Valle (14-1). The Warriors ran off 12 straight wins after suffering a Week Three loss, and captured the Class 1 state championship on December 7.
After the Valle game, the Jays will hit the road for two games, one at Grandview (2-8) on October 9, and another at Chaffee (1-9) on October 16. Jefferson will close the regular season on October 23 at home against St. Vincent (7-4). The district playoffs begin on October 30.
JHS’s 2020 opponents have a combined 2019 record of 44-54, but the teams the Jays see at home compiled a 34-14 mark. Blue Jay Nation will definitely need to show up in force (if allowed) for those games.
