Friday Night Preview Week 2: Ste. Genevieve Dragons

The Ste. Genevieve Dragons look to start the season 2-0 on Friday as they take on an 0-1 Affton squad for their second straight home game in 2022.

Ste. Genevieve Head Coach Jay Pope had to have been happy with how his offense showed explosiveness last Friday night, as the Dragons put up 50 points in a win over Festus at Ste. Genevieve High School. But the defense allowed the Tigers to creep back into the game, giving up 16-second half points to close the gap, on top of the 19 they gave up in the first half.

Quarterback Aiden Boyer had a great showing, hitting nine of his 11 throws for 204 yards and three TDs, while tailback Ayden Butcher rumbled off 183 yards on the ground on 17 carries and scored two times. Wideout Kaden Flye led the receiving corp with eight catches for 175 yards and two scores and racked up an incredible four total TDs in the game.

In Week 2 the Dragons will take on Affton, who lost to Lutheran South on the road 46-20 in Week 1. Cougars coach Tony Muyco II will not want his team to start the season 0-2, so Ste. Genevieve will see Affton’s best game at Dragon Field Friday night.

You can bet Coach Pope will have his defense ready for Affton come Friday, with hopes to see the Dragons lock up a trio of Cougar running backs who ran for a total of 104 yards with a touchdown against the Lancers.

Good luck in Week 2 Dragons! Friday Night Preview Week 2: Ste. Genevieve Dragons
