It’s a respectful and humble culture that leads to success on a variety of spectrums, but that doesn’t mean that we’re going to shy away from championing an individual who had a truly impressive performance within the week.
We’ve teamed up with the good people at Pettus Automotive to bring you a feature that will highlight one student athlete’s outstanding individual performance every week. Whether on the gridiron, golf course, diamond or hardwood, there is always someone doing something special. And we thought you’d all like to know about it.
This week the honor goes to Hillsboro Hawks Quarterback, Preston Brown. The young signal caller had a monster week in the Hawks’ 56-25 victory over Poplar Bluff to close out the 2023 regular season.
Getting it done with both his arm and his legs, Brown amassed over 400 yards in the victory. He was elite in the pocket, going 13-of-17 for a whopping 296 yards and racked up four touchdowns against just one interception. He also paced the ground game, leading the team in yards (108) and carries (14).
Brown connected with his receivers early and often, tossing a 60 yard bomb for a TD in the first quarter and immediately followed that up with a 22-yard strike in the opening frame to give his team a commanding 27-7 lead after just 12 minutes of play. He continued that streak of excellence in the second quarter when he launched a 63-yard missile for another score and then zipped in a 10-yard dart for his fourth passing TD on the day. He also managed to find the endzone on the ground, adding to his remarkable day on the gridiron.
The dual threat QB was a force in the Hawks’ eighth victory of the season, and they now roll into the playoff as the top seed in Class 4 District 1 with an 8-1 record. Surely the Hillsboro faithful know that this level of success couldn’t not have been achieved without Brown’s massive performance through the air and on the ground.
Quite the individual effort.
Thanks to Pettus Automotive for making this possible, and congratulations to Preston Brown on one heck of a week this season.
