It’s a respectful and humble culture that leads to success on a variety of spectrums, but that doesn’t mean that we’re going to shy away from championing an individual who had a truly impressive performance within the week.
We’ve teamed up with the good people at Pettus Automotive to bring you a feature that will highlight one student athlete’s outstanding individual performance every week. Whether on the gridiron, golf course, diamond or hardwood, there is always someone doing something special. And we thought you’d all like to know about it.
This week the honor goes to Park Hills Central Rebels Quarterback, Casen Murphy. The uber-talented signal caller went off in the team’s first District Playoff game this season, throwing for 242 yards, five touchdowns and a two-point conversion on a QB scramble. Not only was he elite as a sniper in the pocket, he was extremely efficient as well, going 17-for-20 on passing attempts.
The Rebels earned the top seed in Class 3 District 1 and were awarded a first round bye, so after a week off, Murphy and his squad were rested and ready to charge. They hosted the Herculaneum Blackcats in the second round of Districts and promptly dispatched them 44-14. Thanks in large part to Murphy’s cannon and his talented receivers.
The decorated QB slung, tossed, bombed, lasered and fired passes of 35, 11, 39, 4 and 36 yards that all went for touchdowns. He was on point from the jump and was so dominant that he didn’t have anything to do after the first half. After the opening 24 minutes the Rebels were already up 44-0, so he got to take a seat for the rest of the game. Just think about those numbers if he had gone full tilt the whole contest.
Central now has earned a spot in the District Finals against Ste. Genevieve and, if they can keep up this incredible level of play, will find themselves in the State Tournament. It’s been a bit of an up and down year for the Rebels, but they have a chance to make some noise when it matters most.
Murphy will undoubtedly be a huge part of that.
Thanks to Pettus Automotive for making this possible, and congratulations to Casen Murphy on one heck of a week this season.
