It’s a respectful and humble culture that leads to success on a variety of spectrums, but that doesn’t mean that we’re going to shy away from championing an individual who had a truly impressive performance within the week.
We’ve teamed up with the good people at Pettus Automotive to bring you a feature that will highlight one student athlete’s outstanding individual performance every week. Whether on the gridiron, golf course, diamond or hardwood, there is always someone doing something special. And we thought you’d all like to know about it.
This week the honor goes to Ste. Genevieve Dragons Quarterback, Luke Ferranto, who put the team on his back as a signal caller AND a rusher for a clutch 21-20 victory over the always tough Park Hills Central Rebels. The hairline victory gave the Dragons their fourth consecutive win and bumped them to 4-1 on the season.
Ferranto opened the scoring with a slick 17-yard pass to Aiden Meyer, who streaked into the endzone to give the Dragons a 7-0 lead. Then in the second quarter, the young QB hooked up with star wideout Wyatt Springkamper from 14 yards out for another score to double the lead.
The rest of the game for Ferranto was clock management and the use of his legs, as he led the team in rushing with 79 yards on 20 carries. The Dragons were clearly leaning on him to secure the victory, as the next closest ball carrier had just half of his total. He finished with 168 yards through the air on 11-of-17 passes and totaled 247 yards when it was all said and done. The defense bent at the end, but didn’t break, and held on for the always-exciting one-point victory.
Quite the individual effort.
Ste. Gen will look to keep the winning streak alive this week when they take on the Trojans in Potosi on Friday night.
Thanks to Pettus Automotive for making this possible, and congratulations to Luke Ferranto on one heck of a week this season.
