It’s a respectful and humble culture that leads to success on a variety of spectrums, but that doesn’t mean that we’re going to shy away from championing an individual who had a truly impressive performance within the week.
We’ve teamed up with the good people at Pettus Automotive to bring you a feature that will highlight one student athlete’s outstanding individual performance every week. Whether on the gridiron, golf course, diamond or hardwood, there is always someone doing something special. And we thought you’d all like to know about it.
This week the honor goes to Festus Tigers Cross Country phenom, Carson Driemeier. The Sophomore, who medaled in State as a Freshman, continued his dominance on Saturday October 28th in the 5,000 meter race. He finished first overall and led his team to the District Title.
Driemeier finished with a personal best time of 15:29.5 and his score put Festus over the top with 59 points to win it all and qualify the team for the State Championships. Driemeier also individually qualified for State and has now gotten to the biggest stage in his first two years of High School.
Something of note is that nearly everyone set a personal record in this race as the course was set up to be very fast, but that in no way diminishes Driemeier’s accomplishment. By comparison, last year’s State Champion finished with a time of 15:38.9, nearly 10 seconds slower than Carson’s time this year. As a Freshman last year he ran a 16:26.5, and despite that being an excellent finish time, it pales in comparison to his result this season.
Quite the individual effort, and it appears this young man is just going to continue to get better.
Thanks to Pettus Automotive for making this possible, and congratulations to Carson Driemeier on one heck of a week this season.
