The Jefferson R-7 Varsity Football team has a lot of work to do this week to prepare for their next game, a home match-up against Grandview on Friday night, October 8th. Last Friday was an absolute nightmare for the Jefferson Blue Jays, who were defeated handily by the Valle Catholic Indians 56-0. Hopefully the loss will motivate the team to come out blazing with something to prove. The loss pushed the Blue Jays to 4-2 on the regular season.
The game this week is even more important than last, as the also 4-2 Grandview Eagles are a district opponent. The Blue Jays have faired well so far this season and are 2-1 in their district. They have scored 220 points and given up 113 in their first six games.
On the other side, the Eagles have scored 213 points in total, only given up 70 and also have a 2-1 district record. They won last week by the narrowest of margins to defeat Father Tolton 28-27.
Looking at common opponents, both schools have beaten Herculaneum and Bayless, and have lost to St. Pius.
Last week the Blue Jay offense could not get going. In fact, the team netted a mere 77 total yards, only three of which came from rushing. Turnovers also hurt them as well.
This week, Jefferson needs to take control early and establish the run game quickly. The good news is the team seems to play better at home, posting a clean 3-0 record when hosting the game. The Blue Jays can make their own destiny in the district if they can knock off Grandview, which takes place this Friday, October 8th, with a 7:00 p.m. kickoff.
Good luck Blue Jays!
