Get ready for another Friday night of high school football action! This week, the Jefferson R-7 Blue Jays Varsity squad will look to capture their fifth win of the season as they head to Valle Catholic to take on the Warriors.
The Blue Jays currently sit at 4-1, coming off an outstanding performance last week, blowing out the Bayless Broncos by the score of 61-20. Jefferson has been dominant in their wins, scoring a total of 220 points in five games, while only allowing their opponents to score 57. Their lone loss came two weeks ago in an extremely close game, losing on the very last play to St. Pius, 24-20.
Lining up on the other side of the ball this week is the Valle Catholic Warriors, boasting a perfect 5-0 record. The Warriors have also been dominant, scoring 236 total points, while only allowing 35. In fact, no team has even come close to defeating Valle, as the most points they’ve allowed in a game so far is 14. Last week they trounced St. Francis Borgia 42-0, and will attempt to keep their undefeated season going against a very good Jefferson football team.
The offense for the Blue Jays is multifaceted, taking advantage of both their slew of receivers, as well as running backs. Drew Breeze has been stellar at quarterback for the Blue Jays all season. In fact, last week he was a perfect 10 for 10 in passing, for 212 yards and two touchdowns. His main target was Chase Politte who had three catches for 105 yards and two touchdowns. After Politte was Will Breeze who caught three passes for 50 yards, followed by Nate Breeze had two receptions for 21 yards. This trio has been formidable all season.
On the ground, Jefferson ran the ball 25 times for 144 yards. Sean Usery had six of the carries for 29 yards and three touchdowns. Sam Stokes ran the ball four times for 72 yards and a touchdown. W. Breeze also had four carries for 19 yards and one touchdown, and creating a balanced rushing attack has benefitted Jefferson all season.
It’s going to be a battle for sure, as these two powerhouse offenses square up this Friday night, October 1st at Valle for a 7:00 p.m. kickoff. Don’t miss it!
