The Ste. Genevieve Dragons Varsity Football team sits at 1-1 and is coming off of a tough 46-0 loss to their crosstown rivals, the Valle Catholic Warriors. The Dragons are back in action this week and look to grab their second win of the season against the Kennett Indians on Friday, September 10th.
Last week could’ve gone better for the Dragons. They lost the latest edition of the Valle versus St. Gen rivalry by a comfortable margin, and they struggled to get anything going all game. Aiden Boyer threw for just 68 yards and also tossed two interceptions. Wyatt Springcamper and Zach Boyer led the team in rushing, but both were just north of 25 yards. Springcamper had 34 receiving yards as well.
Kennett is coming into this game 2-0 and both of their wins were blowouts. They shut out Madden 48-0 in week one. Then they piled on even more in week two when they crushed Doniphan 61-7. Ste. Gen needs to prepare for another week against a high-powered offense.
The Dragons faced off against Kennett twice last season. They lost the first matchup in the regular season 49-13, and then met again in the state playoffs and the Indians ended their season with a 47-29 victory. Ste. Gen has not picked up a win against Kennett since 2016. They are 3-6 against the Indians dating back to 2012.
Ste. Gen is set up for another week where they’ll have their work cut out for them, and their second win of the season is not going to come easily. They’ll try to have some success against Kennet for the first time in five years, but this is a revamped squad and the Dragons will be looking for revenge. Kickoff is at 7 pm on Friday, September 10th on St. Gen’s home field.
Good luck Dragons!
