What a difference a week can make.
After a hard-luck 36-31 loss in week one to the Ste. Genevieve Dragons, the Festus Tigers Varsity Football team leveled out their season by steamrolling the Sullivan Eagles in week two 26-12. The now 1-1 Tigers are looking to build off of that crucial first win and put together a string of victories.
The defense showed up big for the Tigers in week two, but once again they will have to heavily rely on the big right arm of QB Cole Rickermann in week three, as they welcome the always-challenging Windsor Owls to town this week. The Festus signal-caller has had a ridiculous start to the season, putting up over 600 yards passing and eight touchdowns through the team’s first two games. He’ll likely have to lean on standout wideouts Isaac Stucke, who leads the team in receptions, and Arhmad Branch, who has posted back to back 100-yard/TD games to start the season.
Windsor won’t go down without a fight though, and the Tigers will need all facets of their game firing on all cylinders. The Owls won a 15-12 defensive standoff in week one against Herculaneum for their first win, but stumbled a bit in week two as they fell to the Perryville Pirates 32-26. Their late fourth-quarter comeback fell just short, so they are likely to be energized and out for blood.
The good news is that historically the Tigers have dominated the Windsor Owls over the last decade. Last year they won 49-13, which marked their tenth win in a row over the Owls. In fact, the last loss against Windsor came all the way back in 2010.
The Tigers are hoping for a repeat of the the last decade against this Owls squad on Friday night. Kickoff is at 7 pm sharp in Festus.
Good luck Tigers!
