Last season was a magical one for the Jackson Indians, as they brought home their first State Championship title in school history. A perfect 14-0 season showcased their utter domination on both sides of the ball, and they were truly a force to be reckoned with.
Fast forward to 2021 and not much has changed. Despite losing some key players to graduation, the Indians are still as dominant as ever and are likely the favorites to repeat in their class. Because the roster is so deep, despite having big shoes to fill, this year’s starters jumped right in without missing a beat.
Week one displayed that to a tee. Almost as if it was scripted, the Indians made quick work of the Roosevelt Roughriders to the tune of an 80-6 beatdown. They starters shined, but didn’t last long as the score got out of hand quickly. It turns out the Jackson bench is a treasure trove of riches as well, as they piled on the hapless Roughriders in their own right.
Week two should be a much tougher test though, as the Indians will travel to Hillsboro to take on the revamped Hawks. The Indians have won the last three meetings against the Hawks, and won by an average margin of 51 points per game, but this year’s Hawks team looks strong and could be more of a challenge. They won their first game last week in style with a 49-0 drubbing of the Northwest Cedar Hill Lions.
The Indians know they are up against a challenging opponent in week two, so you can bet Head Coach Brent Eckley will have them prepared and ready to roll. This should be an excellent battle.
Good luck Indians!
