Tiger Golfers Take 1st and 3rd in Tourneys This Week

At about the midpoint of the season, the Tigers are hitting their stride, finishing first in the Mideast Invitational, and fifth in the Ste. Gen Invitational. Weinhaus leads both events for the Tigers.

The Festus Tigers Varsity Golf team played twice this past week. Their first match was on Monday, April 12th, in the Mid-East Tournament. Then the team entered another tournament on Wednesday, April 14th, hosted by Ste. Genevieve.

The results of the 2021 Mideast Invitational held at Raintree on Monday, April 12th, were great for the Tigers. Festus finished first with an impressive score of 372, beating out six other schools. All players won medals in this event.

Collin Weinhaus shot the best for the Tigers with a score of 96 to tie for third place. Cole Rickermann and Nathan Bohn each shot a 103. Just after them with a 104 was Ben Oppelz.

Bohn commented on his performances thus far in the season, and said, “We are undefeated in matches. I have placed in the top 25 percent in all our tournaments and have place third and fourth in all matches. I’m playing very well for my Senior year.”

Isaac Stucke and Grant Flotron competed in the scramble event, and won with a score of 77. Flotron has struggled a bit this season, and mentioned, “My season is not going the best because I’m having trouble being consistent. However the rest of our team is doing very well, especially considering that almost our entire Varsity team is Juniors.”

In the Best Ball competition, Oppelz came in third with a 96.

The next day, the team took part in another event, the Ste. Gen tournament. The team again played well, coming in fifth out of 15 teams with a team score of 380.

Weinhaus again shot the best on the day, putting up an impressive 86 tying him for sixth. Speaking on Weinhaus and his team’s showing in the conference, Head Coach Chris Koch noted, “We finished 9-0 in the conference. Weinhaus has been the medalist or co-medalist in all of our conference matches.”

Koch continued and added, “Bohn and Rickermann have been solid all season. Stucke played better on Thursday. Flotron and Oppelz round out the Varsity and have been consistent.”

The Tigers will now prep for the Festus Invitational, which is this Wednesday, April 21st. Tiger Golfers Take 1st and 3rd in Tourneys This Week
