Hillsboro Girls Track earned second place at the Perryville Invitational on Tuesday April 6th with 134 points, only falling short of first place by 21 points.
“I was super proud of the girls yesterday,” said Head Coach Dina Holland. “They continue to keep improving and setting new goals. Maya Wright continues to be a team leader in both hurdles, high jump and in the 4×4 relay.”
Wright isn’t just a leader, she is a force. In the 100m Hurdles, she finished in 16.09 seconds, more than a full second quicker than the second place finisher, and in the 300m Hurdles she finished in 49.36 seconds, but seeded at 48.44 seconds. The next fastest competitor finished in 51.82 seconds.
“Krista Miller who is only a Freshman has had more than an outstanding start to the season, as she won the triple (10.14m) and long jumps (4.70m) last night.” Said Holland. “Our 4×400 relay ran an exciting race taking 1st place with Sidney Buettner, Reese Buettner, Lauren Nichols, and Wright.” The Girls’ time of 4:25.19 was more than 5 seconds quicker than second place Valle Catholic.
“Nichols ran an outstanding time (2:35.81) in the 800 meters yesterday placing 2nd. Our 4×100 relays of Nichols, Sidney Buettner, Reese Buettner and Bella Uzzle placed 2nd, as well as our 4x 800 relay of Anna Crosby, Michelle Jones, Riley Kruse and Abby Couch. I was proud of all the girls’ efforts last night.”
Hillsboro Girls Track and Field heads to Jackson on Saturday April 10 to compete in the Jackson Invitational, but then travels back to Festus only three days later to compete in the Tigertown Invitational on Tuesday April 13th.
