Coming into their game against Potosi, the Ste. Genevieve Dragons were on a remarkable seven-match win streak. The Dragon girls hadn’t lost since September 9th and had only dropped three sets that entire stretch. Facing a conference opponent, the Dragons were looking to continue to keep the streak alive.
The Dragon girls would come out strong and take the first set 25-18. Potosi would answer, forcing a deciding third set by winning the second in a competitive 25-20 game. In the end, the Dragons would take the decisive third set by a dominant score of 25-15 and extend their win streak to eight.
There was an incredible balance through the squad as many members contributed to the win. For example, four different Dragons would accumulate eight kills or more. Tessa Grass and Abby Moore had eight each with Marysa Flieg contributing 10 and Dru Koetting leading the team with 13. Koetting also led her team in aces by smacking home seven of those while chipping in with two solo blocks. Flieg led the Dragons in blocks with three on the day.
What may stand out the most was Brittney Kreitler and the things she was able to accomplish as the team’s setter. Through the help of her teammates slamming home kill after kill, Kreitler grabbed an astonishing 39 assists in the three-set match.
The Dragons will take their eight-game win streak into this weekend’s ultra-competitive Jackson Tournament.
