As the High School Football season rolls into October, the Jackson Indians Varsity squad looks to remain perfect this year as they take on the Cardinal Ritter Lions. The 5-0 Indians were initially scheduled to play Miller Career Academy, but due to roster complications MCA had to bow out. Thankfully the Lions stepped up and the Indians will be able to strap on the pads on Friday night.
Despite the schedule change and new opponent, there shouldn’t be any concern when it comes to Jackson Football in 2021. The defending State Champs have been a wrecking ball this season and are demolishing everything in their path. In four of their five wins, they’ve allowed seven or less points (including two shutouts) and have outscored their competition 270-45. If you want to call that “competition”.
The dynamic duo of QB Cameron Marchi and WR Kannen Turley have been an absolute force this season, and the two-headed monster of Tony Williams and Joshua Wehrenberg in the ground game gives this Indians squad a more than formidably-balanced attack. Throw in a suffocating defense, and there’s a reason why Jackson has rattled off 19 straight wins dating back to the start of last season.
As for Cardinal Ritter, they are 3-2 this season, but are 2-0 in their district and have big wins over St. Francis Borgia (50-0) and St. Dominic (42-21). However, stepping out of the Catholic circuit may be a rude awakening in this case, as they likely haven’t faced a squad as dominating as the Indians. To their credit though, the Lions have outscored their opponents 142-107 and are a solid program.
Jackson is likely just happy to have someone to play against so they didn’t have a lull in meaningful game-time minutes, but you can be sure Head Coach Brent Eckley will have them taking this game seriously. The Indians will host the Lions on Friday night in The Pit.
Kickoff is at 7 pm. Bring your rally gear.
