The Festus Tigers Junior Varsity Baseball team beat the Fox Warriors 5-2 on Tuesday for their first win of the season.
Festus came out of the gate ready to produce. They got themselves going in the first inning when Trenton Young smacked a double to centerfield that scored Tyler Reece and Hayden Bates. They added one more run in the first that gave them a 3-0 lead. Fox immediately answered in their half of the first with two runs to cut into that Tiger lead.
Festus added another run to their total in the top of the third. Gavin Williams smoked an RBI-double into centerfield that scored Brayden Montgomery. They then added their fifth run in the fourth inning when Henry Roux scored on a wild pitch.
The Tigers’ arms and defense took control of the game from there. They sealed the 5-2 victory and claimed their first win of the season.
“I think we really put the bat on the ball well,” Carter White said. “We played as a team. We got our heads in the game.”
Young was 1-2 on the day with a double and two RBIs, while Reece hit a single and scored a run. Williams was 1-2 with a double and an RBI as well. Montgomery and Bates each recorded one hit.
“We swung the bats pretty hard,” Bates said. “We made some great plays in the field as well.”
Williams started the game on the mound and picked up the win. He allowed three hits and one run through two innings and struck out four batters. Montgomery came into the game in relief. He allowed one hit and struck out four batters as well.
The Tigers were ecstatic to pick up not only their first win of the season, but their first taste of victory since the 2018-19 season. The offense has produced well in their first two games, and they will do their best to keep the bats going. Festus’ next challenge is Park Hills Central on Monday, March 29th.
