Festus Girls Wrestling Has Strong Weekend

The Lady Tigers of Festus wrestle strong in two weekend tournaments, taking second and third respectively as a team. They also boast three individual medalists.

The Festus Girls Varsity Wrestling team had a busy weekend entering tournaments on both Friday and Saturday.

On Friday, January 29, the Festus Tigers traveled to De Soto to enter the first annual Lady Dragon Wrestling Tournament. The Tigers entered four wrestlers into the event and came home with a second place finish for the team, which included two Gold medalists and a Bronze medalist.

Wrestling at the 112 lb. weight class, Lee Ann Dobbs earned the Bronze Medal by placing third, with a 2-1 record, with both wins coming by pin.

Also wrestling at 112, Kirsten Klein won Gold by pinning both opponents she faced.

At 117, Sarah Gazaway placed fourth with an 0-3 record.

Lastly, at 122, Lauren Mills won Gold by pinning both opponents she faced.

Then, on Saturday, January 30, the Festus Tigers entered into the Seckman Women’s Tournament. With only four girls available, the Tigers did what they know how to do best, wrestle hard. The team did just that and managed to finish third out of 16 schools.

Wrestling at the 107 lb. weight class, Dobbs won Gold by pinning both opponents she faced.

At 112, Klein also brought home the Gold by winning three matches, all by pin.

Gazaway placed fourth with an 0-3 record.

Lastly, at 122, Mills placed first by dominating the competition. She won all five matches, which included four pins.

The Tigers will look to keep their claws sharp in preparation for the upcoming district tournament, set to begin on Friday, February 5.
