It’s Friday night. And Friday night is football night in the world of high school sports… assuming you’re on the right side of the dividing line. Thankfully we’ve got games to talk about and these young men are ready to get after it.
First off we’ve got the Tigers of Cape Girardeau Central (1-1) hoping to be the chink in the armor of the seemingly unbeatable Jackson Indians. We’ll see how much of a confident and resilient bunch the Tigers are after a tough 47-20 loss at Hillsboro last week. They will certainly have their metal tested though as the Indians come into town having outscored their opponents 160-34, en route to a perfect 3-0 record.
Next up the Tigers of Festus face off against the Dragons of DeSoto. The Tigers have been carving up opponents with over 40 points scored and just 13 points allowed in each game this season. It’s no surprise that the 0-3 Dragons will have their work cut out for them as they visit the Tigers and their 3-0 record in a conference showdown.
Then we have the Jefferson R7 Blue Jays pitted against the St. Pious Lancers. The Jays are coming off a convincing 54-point shutout over Herculaneum and will look to improve their record to 3-1. The Lancers are also currently sitting on a 2-1 record after taking down Grandview last week. This conference showdown holds a lot of weight and should be an entertaining battle.
Next on the docket has the Hillsboro Hawks taking on the Raiders of North County. Coming off an impressive 47-20 win last week against Cape the Hawks are looking to make it two in a row in a tough conference matchup with the 2-1 Raiders. North County obliterated DeSoto last week 62-0, so it will be no easy feat.
Finally we have the Ste. Genevieve Dragons looking for their first win of the season in a conference standoff with the Potosi Trojans. The Dragons are currently perched at 0-3, while the Trojans sit at 2-1. It will take a lot of fight from a young team to upset Potosi for their first win, but the Dragons are looking to make a mark in their first conference game of the young season.
Happy hunting everyone, and good luck to all those gutting it out on the field. Another Friday night battle awaits us.
