Ste. Gen Girls Power Past Saxony Lutheran

The Lady Dragons of Ste. Genevieve utterly dominated Saxony Lutheran 61-34 over the weekend. The complete-effort victory featured big games from Maci Reynolds and Marysa Flieg.

The Ste. Genevieve Girls Basketball team cruised to a 61-34 win over Saxony Lutheran over the weekend behind the dominant scoring force of Maci Reynolds, Megan Aubuchon, Marysa Flieg and Syndney Bumgardaner.

Ste. Genevieve opened the game with a bang, going up 21-9 after the opening eight minutes, thanks in part to ten points from Reynolds. She dropped two from deep and drained a couple more from the field. A frustrated Saxony Lutheran then started making sloppy fouls and Flieg made them pay for it. She went 3-4 from the charity stripe, and added four more from the field to finish the quarter with seven points.

The second quarter didn’t go much better for Saxony as the Dragons shutdown defense held them to just eight points. Bumgardaner went off for nine points in the second, further extending the Dragons’ lead heading into halftime. As a team they managed 18 points in the second quarter to take a 42-17 lead.  Ste. Gen’s defense was no joke as well, holding Saxony to just 17 first-half points, after allowing them a mere eight in the second quarter.

The Dragons’ offense would then hit cruise control in the second half, while still holding Saxony to 17 points. Aubuchon led the way for the Dragons in the final half with seven points, leading Ste. Gen to the easy 61-34 win.

Reynolds managed to lead all scorers with 17 points, while Flieg chipped in 14 of her own. Aubuchon and Bumgardaner added in 12 and 11 points, respectively.

The Lady Dragons really poured it on in this one, with the offense and defense gelling to the point where they looked like a well-oiled machine.

The sky is the limit.
