The Ste. Genevieve Dragons picked up a big win over Arcadia Valley, getting double-digit performances from Megan Aubuchon, Sydney Bumgardaner and Maci Reynolds for the 81-34 win.
The Dragons wasted no time to gain their lead, taking a 25-14 advantage after the opening eight minutes of play. Aubuchon scored nine of her game-high 22 points to set the pace. Right behind her were Reynolds and Abby Moore with five apiece.
“The girl’s defensive pressure right out of the gate set the tone…they played hard and with a purpose,” said Head Coach Jordanna Walk. “It was a good team win for them.”
Along with their explosive offense, the Dragons defense held the Tigers to just 12 second-quarter points while the duo of Bumgardaner and Reynolds fueled Ste. Genevieve’s scoring efforts. The two combined for 20 of the teams 27 points, with Bumgardaner hitting twice from beyond the arc. The Dragons held a 52-26 lead heading into halftime.
“Our defense was amazing against AV, so once we had good defense, we did better on offense,” said Aubuchon.
It was all Ste. Genevieve in the second half as well as their defense continued to shine. They held Arcadia Valley to just eight points in the final 16 minutes of play while their offense never lacked its scoring punch. Eight Dragons recorded points in the game while the trio of Aubuchon, Bumgardaner and Reynolds accounted for 59 of the teams 81 points.
Aubuchon led with 22 points, four boards, and 2 assists. Reynolds wasn’t far behind with 18 points, 2 boards and two assists. Bumgardaner finished up with 19 points, nine of which came from downtown.
