Almost to the mid-point of the season, things couldn’t be going better for the Valle Catholic Varsity Baseball team, as it once again took only five innings for the boys to bring home a winner. The Warriors are playing incredibly tough baseball on all fronts, as the team eviscerated Arcadia Valley on Thursday, April 14th.
Falling behind 1-0, Chase Fallert decided to put his team on his back and led off with a triple, before hot-hitting two-hole masher, Josh Bieser, doubled to drive him in to tie the game. Aiden Heberlie then singled, allowing Bieser to cross the plate as the Warriors took the lead 2-1. There would be no more offense from Arcadia.
Three consecutive singles netted Valle another two runs in the second, giving them a 4-1 lead. In the bottom of the third, Collin Vaeth led off with a walk, setting up a two-run home run by Isaac Viox making it a 6-1 game. However, they weren’t finished as C. Fallert, batting for the third time in the third inning, hit another double to drive in Michael Okenfuss, making it a commanding 7-1 lead after only three innings.
If that wasn’t enough, the bats exploded in the fifth as C. Fallert drove in another two runs on a single. A bases-loaded walk added the tenth run for the Warriors before Grant Fallert singled to drive in the final run necessary to end the game by the 10-run mercy rule.
The pitching was excellent. After giving up a run in the top of the inning, starting pitcher Viox settled down and earned the win, striking out one in his two innings of work.
C. Fallert had an incredible four-for-four night with three RBIs, and two runs scored. Viox also did damage with his two-hit, two-RBI night, including his two-run home run. Okenfuss scored twice on two hits in three at-bats.
Now with a 13-3 record, the Warriors are sitting solidly ahead of the rest of their division, eyeing up the second half of the season. With many powerful weapons in their line-up supported by quality pitching, this team is one to be feared.
