The Varsity Girls Soccer team at Festus High School only played one game this week. After the first game was canceled due to inclement weather, the Tigers geared up to face the DeSoto Dragons on Friday, April 1st.
It was a successful game for Festus, picking up only their second win of the season thus far, in the 4-0 shutout against DeSoto. In the first few minutes, getting her first goal of the season was Summer Sansoucie. She buried a ball from 25 yards out giving the Tigers an early 1-0 lead. Adding two more goals to her season total, Emily Holt continued her impressive play, putting the Tigers up by three. The DeSoto defense did themselves no favors, and added an “own goal,” giving the Tigers a 4-0 win.
Back from injury, Jersey Moonier played well as she put the pressure on DeSoto, peppering the net with five shots. She also picked up one point on an assist. Danielle Dickerson contributed in the midfield, adding a shot-on-goal while also notching an assist. Defensively, the team held fast. Goalie Zoe Erxleben and the defense earned their first shutout of the season.
This was a big win for a team that needed to gain the confidence necessary to keep pushing through the heart of the season. The team will play three games this week, starting with a trip to Affton to take on the Cougars, on Monday, April 4th.
