Central Basketball Secures Conference Championship

The Park Hills Central Rebels take down the Farmington Knights for a perfect 5-0 record en route to a Conference Championship and potential number one seed.

It was a clean sweep of the Mineral Area Large School Conference this season for the Park Hills Central Varsity Basketball Team. The Rebels went 5-0 in the conference to successfully bring home the championship plaque for the 2021-2022 regular season.

The most recent win over Farmington on Tuesday night, February 1st, sealed the deal for Central who have positioned themselves as best as possible for their district tournament seed. The conference champion, in all likelihood, will find themselves slotted at number one in a few weeks when the final tournament begins.

Last night the Rebels wore out yet another school, dominating the Farmington Knights, eventually coasting to a lopsided victory. Central is on a five-game winning streak and previously hadn’t been challenged since their tough loss to Confluence over two weeks ago. The Knights did put up more of a struggle than recent foes, but inevitably, the Rebels took home the victory and improved their record to 15-3 on the season.

The first quarter was actually a scary eight minutes for the Rebels who found themselves behind for 20-17 after the first quarter. Trailing for the first time in recent memory lit a fire in the Central offense who powered up with 22 points in the second, all while holding Farmington to only 12 and giving Central a 42-39 lead at the half.

The third quarter didn’t accomplish much for either team, as both notched 10 a piece, making the final frame all that more important. Fearing their Conference Championship could be slipping away, the Rebels turned up the heat and unloaded with 16 points in the fourth, including an 11-0 run. More importantly, the defensive unit absolutely shut down the Knight’s would-be offense, holding them to just five in the final frame. The Rebels’ strong finish and just five turnovers in the game earned them an 18 point margin of victory, 65-47.

The offense for the Rebels came from the usual suspects. Racking up his fair share of the points, Jobe Bryant led the way with 20 and added eight rebounds and seven assists. Just behind him was Kendall Horton, who tallied 19, and contributing 10 more points to the win was Kannon Harlow.

Breathing a sigh of relief, the Rebels celebrated the culmination of their regular season efforts as they hoisted the championship plaque, knowing that this was only the first step on the road to their ultimate goal, a MO State Title. Up next for the team is a game this Friday, February 4th, versus South Iron.  Central Basketball Secures Conference Championship
