Valle JV Starts Strong Against Crosstown Rivals

The Valle Catholic Warriors JV Football team open up their season with a dominant 40-0 victory over crosstown rival Ste. Genevieve.

The Valle Catholic Warriors Junior Varsity Football squad started fast and never looked back Tuesday night at Dragon Field, winning 40-0. Alex Viox took the first play of the game 79 yards to pay dirt to give Valle a 6 point early in the first quarter against Ste. Genevieve. Grant Fallert scored on runs of 55 yards and 10 yards to put the Warriors ahead 20-0 at the end of the first. Another Fallert, Rylan, scored on the first play of the second half with a gutsy jet sweep play, and Will Kuehn converted his third extra point in a row to make it 27-0. Then Wyatt Fallert hit AJ Basler on a beautiful corner route with time expiring at the end of the first half to make it 34-0 at half.

The Warriors spread the ball around to multiple athletes throughout the second half before Josh Fallert eventually scored on a very tough run with four minutes to go in the game to make the final 40-0. Eleven Warriors carried the ball, six Warriors caught passes and four Warriors had passing attempts. Led by Wyatt Fallert who finished 9-of-15 for 94 yards and touchdown. The offensive line did a great job the entire game both on the ground and through the air.

The Valle defense was dominant throughout the ball game as well. They surrendered under 50 total yards of offense, forced three turnovers and sacked the Dragons QBs six times. Cohen Gibbs and Jacob Elbert turned in menacing performances on the defensive line. Gibbs had 5 total tackles, all for a loss, and recorded 3.5 sacks. Elbert had 6 total tackles, 2.5 sacks and a fumble recovery. The ball-hawk Basler cousins, Isaac and AJ, both recorded big interceptions that helped to keep the Warriors offense on the field.

Coach Mason Skaggs was pleased with the Warriors first underclassmen game, saying, “It was a great first game of the season. It was awesome seeing the Sophomores lead the team and see the improvement from last year. They have put in a bunch of hard work in the weight room. The Freshman did a tremendous job all night in their first action on the JV level. Everyone played physical and executed wonderfully.”

The JV Warriors next action will be next Monday, 9/13, at St. Vincent’s at 6:00 pm.
