It’s hard to stop a train. And the Jackson Indians Varsity Football team is even harder to stop.
The defending State Champion Indians are cruising this season and show no signs of slowing down. After going a perfect 14-0 last season and bringing home the most coveted of all hardware in 2020, they have started out this year with a bang.
Week one featured an 80-6 beatdown of Roosevelt (where the starters took a seat in the early going) and week two showcased a clean sheet against a very formidable Hillsboro team that saw the Indians walk away victorious 42-0. For those keeping score at home that is 122 points scored and just six allowed for the Indians in this young season.
This week seems likely to fall into the same old-same old category as the Indians match up with the Poplar Bluff Mules. Jackson took on the Mules twice last year and made short work of them in both contests, winning handily 56-7 and 55-0. They have won six straight matchups and are 12-1 in their last 13 games against Poplar Bluff.
Let’s not put the cart before the horse though. The Mules will be on their home turf and have really made a statement with their first two games this season. In week one they dropped the Agape Boarding school 48-10 and then in week two they absolutely dusted the DeSoto Dragons 55-0. There may be more to this team than the 5-4 version the Indians faced last season.
That being said, Head Coach Brent Eckley has his boys ready for anything and there doesn’t seem to be a team in the state that can keep up with them right now. But you better believe these Indians don’t take any opponent lightly.
Kickoff is at 7 pm on Friday, September 10th in Poplar Bluff where the Indians will go for their 17th straight win dating back to the start of their Championship season.
Good luck Indians!
