The Festus Tigers’ Junior Varsity Baseball team blew out the St. Louis Patriots on Monday and followed that up with another big win over the Jefferson R7 Blue Jays on Tuesday.

The Tigers handled their business at the end of the day but it was the Patriots that struck first. They scored two runs in the top of the second to take an early lead.

It didn’t take long for the Tigers to strike back. Festus loaded the bases in the bottom of the second when Eli Williams was hit by a pitch that pushed a run across the plate. They scored the next two at-bats off of Patriot mistakes to take a 3-2 lead. Tyler Reece then roped an RBI double into right field that brought Eli Willams and Wyatt Huskey home to score. Hayden Bates capped off their second inning rally with an RBI single to make it 6-2 Tigers.

The Patriots cut the lead to 6-4 in the top of the third. Festus added a run in their half of the third as well. The Tigers’ bats began to do some real damage again in the fifth and sixth innings. Michael Fox stole home before Reece hit an RBI single that extended the lead to 10-4.

The Patriots added two runs in their half of the sixth but Festus added two as well. The Tigers wrapped up the 12-6 victory.

“The team goes up to the plate with a lot of confidence,” Henry Roux said. “Our team brings a lot of energy throughout the game to keep us aggressive and also disrupt the other team.”

Roux, Tyler Reece and Bates all had two hits for the Tigers. Bates led the team with three RBIs. Both Roux and Reece had two RBIs as well. Festus drew seven walks as a team.

The Tigers carried the momentum from the big win over the Patriots into their game against Jefferson.

Festus got started right away. Bates scored on a wild pitch right before Gavin Williams hit an RBI single that scored another run in the first inning. Cole Skaggs scored on an error shortly after and gave the Tigers a 3-0 lead.

Jefferson and Festus each added a run in the second inning before the Tigers sparked another rally in the third. Gavin Williams tripled in a run that kicked things off. Jefferson walked in a run the next at-bat to put Festus ahead 6-1. Roux pushed a run across the plate on a ground out and Will Reese scored on an error. Festus left the third ahead 8-1.

The Tigers scored three more runs in the bottom of the fourth with the help of some Jefferson mistakes. The Blue Jays did score again in the top of the fifth but ultimately came up short. Festus sealed up the 13-2 win and bumped their record to 7-2.

Bates led the team with three hits. He was 3-3 with one RBI and scored two runs. Gavin Williams went 2-2 with two RBIs and scored a run. Eli Williams, White and Roux all had RBIs as well.
