The Ste. Genevieve Dragons varsity girls volleyball team took to the court again Tuesday night playing at Saxony Lutheran High School. A hard fought first set saw the Dragon girls prevail with a 25-20 victory. Senior Brittney Kreitler saw the good and the bad early on but was overall pleased with the team’s performance, despite a few tactical errors. “We had a couple mistakes here and there in the first set, but we still ended up on top.”

As the second set came and went, the Dragons finished off the match victory in convincing fashion, winning 25-14. Kreitler was more impressed with her team’s effort as the match continued stating, “The second set we cleaned some things up and came out much stronger than the first set. Overall, I think we played very well”. Kreitler was incredible in her setting duties, assisting 20 times on the night while adding three kills and an ace to boot.

Sophomore Arie Taylor was enthralled with Kreitler’s abilities noticing “Brittany never fails us and is always a huge addition to our team”. Taylor, who scored two aces, continued to gush about the total team effort from her Dragon teammates. “I felt our team did really well. We played to our potential and didn’t let mistakes bring us down. We wouldn’t have won without our key defensive players like Maci (Reynolds), Liz (Basler), Maya (Watts) and myself”.

Taylor was also impressed with the girls up front recognizing “our front row stars like Marysa (Flieg), Tessa (Grass), Dru (Koetting), A.J. (Prudent) and Jaden (Wehner)”. Flieg was particularly important with her seven kills, two blocks and an ace of her own.

Next up, a quick turnaround will see Ste. Gen play another team of Dragons as Thursday as they face Desoto at 5pm at home. Taylor wants to see her squad continue carrying the momentum. “Last night was another win but we need to focus on our next battle”. Ste. Gen Takes Down Saxony Lutheran
