Ste. Gen Golf Hosts 13th Annual Dragon Invitational

The Ste. Genevieve Dragons place 6th out of 21 teams at their Annual Dragon Invitational.

Ste. Genevieve’s Golf team hosted the 13th Annual Dragon Invitational last week, and fared quite well with a 6th place finish and an overall score of 358. There were a total of 21 teams represented, which included 103 golfers. The biggest storyline was Aiden Boyer placing 3rd overall by shooting a 78, and Gavin Huck taking 8th overall with a score of 81.

Boyer has been Mr. Consistent for the Dragons this season. He started out great with a par on the third hardest hole on the course, and then followed that up with a birdie on hole two and again on hole nine. He had a tough hole five, but was able to bounce back and stay mentally tough by finishing just three over on the front nine. Boyer then attacked the back nine in similar fashion. He was able to shoot five pars in a row and a birdie to help him be three over on the back as well. He was striking the ball well all day long.

Huck’s 8th place finish was the next lowest score on the team, and while the day didn’t start how he wanted, he had one of the best turnarounds of the season. He was six over on the first three holes, but was able to shoot four pars in a row with only one more bogey to put him just seven over all together on the front nine (43). Then on the back he shot par on the second hardest hole on the course, and followed that up with a birdie. Huck was only two over on the back, getting two birdies, three pars and four bogeys. He had his best mental game and it showed by being able to turn his day around after a shaky start.

Next in line was Jayden Rhinehart with an overall score of 91. He played extremely consistently and had a great mental game all day long. He was able to snag two birdies on the day. Rhinehart’s goal was to be in the 80s, which he was just shy of reaching, and he is improving significantly as the season progresses.

Next was Carter Burr, shooting a 108. Burr had some struggles on the day and didn’t shoot his expected round, but did have some excellent tee shots which left him good situations throughout the day. Burr stayed positive and fought for every stroke.

Finally was Jeremiah Kunz and his 108. Kunz also didn’t have the round he had planned or expected, but he  was also in good spirits despite the tough day. He is seeing improvement each week on certain shots as well.

Another impressive outing in the books for this talented club, and they seem to be getting better each week.
