The Park Hills Central Rebels have nothing to fear this week. The 7-1 Varsity Football team, last week, scored their sixth straight win of the season with relative ease over the University City Lions, 69-26.
This Rebels have already clinched the first place spot in the playoff bracket after turning in a perfect 5-0 season in district play. This next game on Friday, October 22nd, against the Farmington Knights means nothing in terms of advancing. It’s the definition of a tune-up game. Not that the Knights are to be taken lightly, as the 6-2 football team definitely will be ready for action. However, what’s at stake for both teams is simply pride.
Central would certainly love to win the game and end the regular season keeping their win streak alive. Farmington, sitting second in their own district, would also prefer to do the same. It could be a tough task for the Knights though, as Central’s high-powered offense has put up a whopping 520 total points, and only given up 106! On the other side, Farmington has scored 212 points, and given up 190.
Last week, Central was unstoppable on the ground, rushing for over 300 yards. Ruger Sutton had 12 carries for 127 yards and three touchdowns. The impressive Dayshawn Welch had four runs for 82 yards and one touchdown, and only played one-quarter, to preserve the powerful ball carrier’s safety because of a recent injury.
Don’t sleep on the Rebels passing game either. Through the air, quarterback Jett Bridges threw for over 100 yards with two touchdowns, while Casen Murphy completed his only two passes of the night and had a touchdown as well.
Even though the outcome means nothing for playoff standings, these two intense teams will battle it out for pride in an attempt to set the tone heading into district action. This Friday, October 22nd, the Park Hills Central Rebels will travel to Farmington to line up against the Knights, with a 7:00 p.m. kickoff.
Good luck Rebels!
