Friday Night Preview Week 8: Jefferson R-7 Blue Jays

The Jefferson R-7 Blue Jays Varsity Football team looks to build on last week’s big win over Grandview as they host the Chaffee Red Devils in week eight.

The Jefferson R-7 Blue Jays Varsity Football team is back in the win column! In week seven, the Blue Jays redeemed themselves from their shutout loss in week six by dominating the Grandview Eagles. The Blue Jays shutout the Eagles by the score of 49-0.

The win had to feel cathartic for the team after the loss, as their offensive fire power came back to life. The 5-2 Blue Jays have now scored 269 points in total, and only given up 113. Their defense has also been stellar. In fact, in three of their five wins, the Jefferson defense has successfully shutout their opposition.

Last week against Grandview, the Blue Jays moved the ball at will. Quarterback Drew Breeze had an impressive game completing 10 of 13 passes for 253 yards and four touchdowns. Chase Politte had three catches for 107 yards and one touchdown, while Will Breeze caught three for 48 yards and a score.

On the ground, the team was successful as well, rushing the ball 28 times for 171 yards. Running back Sean Usery was the workhorse with 16 carries for 91 yards and one touchdown.

Lining up against the Blue Jays are the Chaffee Red Devils. Last week, the Red Devils were handily defeated 55-0 by Scott City, marking the sixth straight loss for the team. The 1-6 squad hasn’t tasted victory since their first game of the season, and may not pose much of a threat to the explosive Blue Jays, as they have only managed to score 40 total points in seven games.

This home non-district game still matters to both teams, who will look to send a message to their upcoming opposition as playoff season approaches. The Blue Jays will host the Red Devils this Friday, October 15th, with a 7:00 p.m. kickoff.

Good luck Blue Jays! Friday Night Preview Week 8: Jefferson R-7 Blue Jays
