The defending State Champs just keep on keepin’ on. The Jackson Indians Varsity Football team is firing on all cylinders in 2021 and is currently sitting atop the table with a perfect 6-0 record. This week their next victim is the Farmington Knights.
The Indians will have to travel to Farmington for this one, but it’s not like a road game has caused any problems for Jackson this year. Jackson dusted Hillsboro and Poplar Bluff in their only two road contests this season so far, and despite Farmington being a formidable foe, the Indians haven’t had any issues with, well, anyone.
Last week they were on cruise control as they rolled Cardinal Ritter, 42-8. Quarterback Cameron Marchi continues to impress and the emergence of Isaiah Davis the last two weeks has been an incredibly potent compliment to All-State wide receiver Kannen Turley. A stout defense, coupled with a well-balanced offense that can burn opponents through the air or on the ground, has the Indians poised for a repeat run to the State Finals.
Don’t expect the Farmington Knights to roll over and play dead though. One of the tougher programs in area, the Knights are 5-1 this season and have won five straight. They lost their first matchup to a vaunted North County team 35-12, but have gone on to take down Potosi, Sikeston, Ritenour, Cape Central and Poplar Bluff. They have outscored their opponents 184-115 on the year and will be a tough steak to chew.
Senior Drew Felker leads the charge for the Knights as he tops the charts from a statical standpoint on both sides of the ball. Drew has big play ability through the air and on the ground, and with Kaeson Mclain’s rushing ability, it could pose threats for Jackson.
The question is, can they hang with the Indians?
The Knights won’t go down easy, but if anyone is up to the task it’s these Indians. They are looking to go 7-0 on the season and win their 21st straight game overall since they started their championship run at the beginning of last season. Kickoff is at 7 pm in Farmington on Friday, October 8th.
Good luck Indians!
