The Festus Tigers Varsity Football team moved to 2-1 last week as they absolutely crushed the Windsor Owls 62-14. The Tigers had the ground game working and stud running back Kaian Roberts-Day reaped the rewards. The big back rushed for 163 yards and four scores and was a big reason why the Tigers turned this contest into a cakewalk in a hurry.
Festus also made history last week when new kicker, Emily Holt, broke the gender barrier as the first female player in the program’s history. Holt shined in her new role, going 7-of-8 on extra point tries. She’s gotten loads of support from her teammates and appears to be the answer at the kicking position.
This week the Tigers travel to De Soto to take on the winless Dragons, and should be in a favorable position to move to 3-1 on the season. Festus has beaten De Soto 13 out of the last 14 matchups and the Tigers have won three straight overall against them. They downed the Dragons in convincing fashion (36-13) in last year’s lone regular season matchup.
De Soto is 0-3 on the year and has somehow not managed to score a solitary point on offense for the whole season. They got buried 55-0, 55-0 and 43-0 in their first three contests. Festus’ defense has been in solid form in both of its wins this season, so there’s a good chance the shutout streak for the Dragons could continue.
Regardless, this should be a layup victory for the Tigers. Kickoff is at 7 pm in De Soto on Friday, September 17th.
Good luck Tigers!
