The Festus Tigers Varsity Tennis team competed twice this past week. The first match was a 5-4 victory over Crystal City. Then the next day, the Tigers came up huge to win the “Conference” Kevin Stoffey Windsor Invitational Tennis Tournament.
The first match was actually a rain out make-up game from Monday, May 3rd. The Tigers were behind 3-4 in that match before the rain ended the day. Picking up on May 5th, Festus rallied to win the final two games to earn the 5-4 victory.
Daxton Burgett, Dustin Peters, Makenzie McJunkins and Connor Zustiak all earned wins in singles action for the first four points. Then, McJunkins and Zustiak got it done together in doubles to get the fifth point for the team victory.
In the Conference Tournament, the Tigers won the first-place plaque for the most points overall as a team, with nine.
Ryan Esparza took home first place individually, and Burgett earned second place, both in singles action.
The team of Paige Wilkinson and Peters took third in the doubles bracket.
The Tigers will look to keep the win streak alive as they play host to the District Tournament, this Friday, May 7th.
