Hillsboro Freshman Take Down Perryville and Pacific in Dominating Fashion

For the Hillsboro Hawks Freshman it doesn’t matter if you’re a Pirate or Indian, they swooped down to grab a couple crucial wins.

The Hillsboro freshman boys basketball team came away with two big wins as they knocked off Perryville 66-13 and Pacific 59-32.

“The kids played really well on defense and got up and down the floor,” said head coach Bill Sucharski. “Really proud of their effort.”

The Hawks played very well on both ends of the floor in the first half, owning a 42-0 lead at the break. Dominick Sutton led with a team-high eight points at halftime, while Payton Brown added seven.

The offense continued its dominance in the second half as they cruised to the 53-point win. Nick Marchetti led with a game-high 16 points, including scoring 10 in the second half. Luka Pool contributed 10 points. Jack Fritsche led the Pirates with nine points.

The Hawks carried that momentum over to the night day when they knocked off Pacific by 27. “The kids played well again,” said Sucharski. “It was good effort on both ends of the floor.”

After scoring 31 points in the first quarter the day before, the Hawks netted 26 against Pacific to lead by 22 after one. Dominick Sutton and Payton Brown totaled eight points each in the quarter.

The team was limited to seven points in the second, but still led 33-16 heading into the locker room. After both the Hawks and Pacific totaled 10 points in the third, Hillsboro expanded its lead into the fourth outscoring 16-10 to go on for the 27-point win.

Sutton led with a game-high 15 points. Brown finished with 12, while Luka Pool concluded with 10. Alex Gehm paced the Indians with 11 points and Nick Bukowsky rounded out with eight.

Hillsboro returns to the court on December 22nd when they’ll visit St. Pius X.
