The JCAA Large School Division Champions Hillsboro Hawks now look to add the Class 4 District 2 title to their successful season. On Monday 10/26, Hillsboro, the number one seed of the tournament, easily defeated the Desoto Dragons in three straight sets with scores of 25-8, 25-9 and 25-8. They will now play for the championship tonight, 10/28, against the St. Pius Lancers.
With their final regular season game being cancelled due to COVID-19, the win against Desoto was the first game since 10/20, a three set loss to St. Pius. Head Coach Erin Boss noted, “The game Monday helped the girls come together as a team and work on things as a team.”
Leading the way in kills was Mackenzie Baker who tallied up 10. Bella Lewis, Sophia Marchetti and Evelyn Roland each had five. Chastity Lucas and Maya Wright both added four a piece.
On the serving side, Roland was responsible for 14 service points, with one ace. Bella Uzzle had 10 points, with an ace. Coming up big from the line was Marchetti, who rallied for nine points, including three aces, along with Baker who also had eight points and three aces.
Lewis also aided her team with passing, leading the assists category with 14. Meanwhile, Roland had 10 assists. Lewis remarked on tonight’s match-up, “We are prepared even though we lost to them last week. We know we are better than we played and have made some adjustments. We need to do all the little things as well communicate and hustle.”
The now 15-6 Hillsboro Hawks look forward to tonights game against the number two ranked St. Pius Lancers, who come into the game with a 19-6-3 record. Coach Boss says her team is ready, “I expect tonight to be a completely different ball game. I know they will come out fired up and wanting to bring home a win and my girls are ready to do the same.”
