The Ste. Genevieve Dragons co-ed Cross Country team took to the track recently in the Potosi Invitational, held at Potosi City Park. Unfortunately for Coach Sierra Boyd and her Dragons, the conditions on race day were not exactly ideal.
“The Potosi meet was a tough day for our team. The weather had been fluctuating between warmer and cooler days in the weeks prior, but the day of the meet was quite warm which posed a challenge,” Coach Boyd stated. She also noted that this year’s meet included more teams and made for a more crowded course to begin the race.
Because of the abundance of racers and sticky conditions, most of the Dragons weren’t exactly thrilled with their finish times. Despite this, Coach Boyd said, “I was still proud of the athletes for persevering through the conditions and giving their best effort for the race. Both the boys and girls are very hard-working teams and they are always striving to improve themselves”.
Since the Potosi Invitational doubles as the MAAA Conference meet, multiple runners from the boys’ team received All-Conference honors. Devin St. Clair placed 4th in-conference with a solid time, while Levi Wiegand secured a 12th place conference finish. On the girls’ side, Cylie Carlson finished 14th in the conference in a race where she felt “like things went pretty well. It felt like a really good race overall!”
