Hillsboro XC Kicks Off New Course in Style

Saturday brought forth the 1st Annual Frank Schultz Invitational at Hillsboro High School, hosted by the Hawks on their brand new course

Saturday brought forth the 1st Annual Frank Schultz Invitational at Hillsboro High School. The Hawks hosted this event on their brand spanking new course and everyone was excited! Hawks runner Josh Allison felt the palpable buzz through his coach’s words stating, “Coach Gordon told us before the race that one person will set the course record today and that one team will be the first varsity boys team to win at our new course. We wanted that to be us”.

Allison truly took this to heart as he and the boys team finished 1st overall out of the 11 teams competing. Allison set the inaugural boys course record by running 16:47:29. His brother, Jonah Allison came in 4th place by running a 17:32. Coach Tom Gordon knows the potential of these two sophomores saying, “The Allison brothers are a huge threat and ran their race with poise.  They knew what they had to do in order for the Hawks to win the meet, which was to go to work on mile two.”

Coach Gordon continued on about his team’s individual performances. “Gavin Vaughn helped secure a key place finishing in 14th place and earning him a Varsity medal. Tyler Winslett and Jesse Gore were not that far behind to help keep our score low.  Jude Short earned his first Varsity race that day and ran a great time considering the rigor of the course”.

On the girls side, the lady Hawks did all they could according to coach Lane Woodside saying, “I thought the girls did well considering our number 3 runner-Michelle Jones was out with an injury for this meet.  She should be back this Thursday for our meet at Orchard Farm”.

And even as the Hawks girls team finished 5th out of six teams with 93 points, coach Woodside still saw positives in his squad. “I think what stood out most to me was our 3 girls who finished in the top 15, being medalists-Anna Crosby, Brianna Langrehr, and Abby Couch”.

Coach Gordon summed up a tidy performance from his team saying, “I was very pleased with their performance.  We ran a smart race and never looked back after the first mile.  Our boys have been working so hard and I am very proud that they won the 1st Annual Frank Schultz Invitational”.
