The JV Hillsboro Hawks volleyball team took care of the Desoto Dragons last week winning the 1st set 25-7, before dropping the 2nd 25-18 and then eventually rallying back in the 3rd to win 25-7.
The Hawks were led by Morgan Rauls and Phoenix Dean who combined with impressive serves in the first set to bring the Hawks all the way up to 25. Reese Buettner and Kayla VanHorn led the team in kills, Sofia Fischer led in aces, and Morgan Rauls paved the way with her digs.
In the 2nd set “the girls got sloppy and comfortable”, said Coach Erickson. “We beat ourselves by making error after error”, as they fell 25-18.
They bounced back in the 3rd set, however, as the Hawks roared back with authority using their skilled servers to create distance once again. Reese Buettner had another long run serving combined with some other key pressure serves near the end to solidify the win for Hillsboro.
”In the third set we were all very determined to win because of how well we played in the first and second set”, said Sophia. “Even though we didn’t win the second set we still fought hard until the end.”
Its easy to see the team chemistry on display for this team and, as put by VanHorn, they are “always there for each other (and) are happy for each other when (they) succeed… cheering each other up when (they) get down.”
