We at Ameritime Sports are proud of the team-first atmosphere surrounding the many programs that we cover. It’s a respectful and humble culture that leads to success on a variety of spectrums, but that doesn’t mean that we’re going to shy away from championing an individual who had a truly impressive performance within the week.
We’ve teamed up with the good people at Pettus Automotive to bring you a feature that will highlight one student athlete’s outstanding individual performance every week. Whether on the gridiron, golf course, field, diamond or hardwood, there is always someone doing something special. And we thought you’d all like to know about it.
This week the honor goes to Gavin Hite, the hard-throwing hurler for the Hillsboro Hawks Varsity Baseball team. Known more for his arm, Hite actually wins this week’s award for his bat. In Saturday’s game against the Perryville Pirates, he went 2-for-3 with an eye-popping seven RBI.
Hite barreled up in the second inning of the 18-3 victory and cranked a three-run homer to centerfield to give the Hawks a 3-0 lead. He followed that up with a sac fly in the third and then cleared the bases in the sixth with a three-run double to right. Add it all up and you get a 7-RBI performance. The Hite-driven win upped Hillsboro’s record to 14-4.
It’s also worth noting that on the mound this season, he is 3-0 with a 2.15 ERA and has 32 strikeouts in just 26 innings. Used as a starter and a reliever, he is also a perfect 2-for-2 in save chances on the year.
Thanks to Pettus Automotive for making this possible, and congratulations to Gavin Hite on one heck of a week.
Gavin will receive a $25 gift card to Pasta House for his impressive accomplishments.
See you all next week.
