The Jackson Varsity Football team should have nothing to fear this Friday night, as the Indians will Travel to O’Fallon, Illinois to take on the Panthers in a non-district game.
For Jackson, this final regular season game won’t change the Indians’ playoff seed, as the team went a perfect 3-0 in their district to secure the top spot. However, the currently undefeated Jackson team sits at 8-0 on the season, and would certainly love to maintain their perfect record into the playoffs. The 6-2 O’Fallon team is in a different district, and they have also secured their second seed, going 4-1 in their league. Either way, both teams would prefer to end the regular season on a win.
On the season, Jackson has been dominant, and has shown that dominance by amassing an incredible point total. In fact, the team has scored 395 points, and given up merely 61. They have also earned three shutouts and only allowed a team to score double digit points once. Last week the team took down Cardinal Ritter for a second time this season, winning the game 28-8.
O’Fallon has been successful as well, but not quite as dominant. The Panthers have put up 240 points and have allowed 135. The team has earned three shutouts as well, and is currently on a three-game winning streak, including last week’s strong performance defeating Alton 43-0.
Last week’s victory for the Indians wasn’t quite the offensive showing that has become the norm for Jackson. Wet conditions certainly played a factor, as quarterback Cameron Marchi was only two for 11 in passing, for only nine yards and one touchdown. However, he got it done on the ground, as he ran for 34 yards on 10 carries, including two touchdowns. Tony Williams was the yards leader offensively. He carried the ball 23 times for 110 yards, including one touchdown.
This week, these two excellent football programs will line up across one another to see who is the better team. While nothing more than pride is on the line, ending the regular season on a solid win is always a positive. This Friday, October 22nd, it’s the Jackson Indians vs. the O’Fallon Panthers, with a 7:00 p.m. kickoff.
Good luck Indians!
