The mighty Jackson Indians are looking to keep their perfect season alive and defend their State Championship Title in week five as they host the Sikeston Bulldogs. The Indians Varsity Football team is humming like a finely-tuned motor and they are revved up to make it 5-0 with a win this week.
Last week Jackson dusted the Cape Central Tigers 48-0 to move to 4-0 in 2021. The ground game was on full display as running back Tony Williams punched in three scores to lead the rout. The dynamic duo of QB Cameron Marchi and WR Kannen Turley was also prominent as the two hooked up for yet another score in the victory.
The Indians have now scored at least 42 points in every game this season and have allowed six or less points in three of their four games; including a pair of shutouts. Domination to say the least, but Head Coach Brent Eckley doesn’t make the mistake of taking any team lightly, so you can bet the Indians aren’t about to underestimate this week’s opponent.
The Sikeston Bulldogs struggled mightily last season with just a 2-8 record, and their matchup with the Indians was not a pretty one to watch if you were cheering for the Dogs. The 71-0 drubbing gave Jackson an eight-game win streak over Sikeston and improved their record to 8-1 against them in the last nine games.
This is a new season though. In 2021 the Bulldogs are 2-2 and started off their season with impressive 48-14 and 11-9 wins over Caruthersville and Dexter, respectively. They dropped their next two, but faced some of the toughest competition in the area, falling to Farmington and Poplar Bluff. Don’t expect the Bulldogs to go quietly into the night in week five.
The Indians will no doubt be prepared though, and have a solid shot to keep their 18-game unbeaten streak alive. Kickoff is on Friday, September 24th at 7 pm in Jackson.
Good luck Indians!
