Hillsboro Girls Wrestling Team Hosts 2nd Annual Tournament

In their 2nd annual home dual tournament, the Hillsboro Lady Hawks Wrestlers capped off their regular season with an 8th place finish, which is a very respectable showing for entering just seven competitors.

On Saturday, January 16, the Hillsboro Hawks Varsity Girls Wrestling team hosted the Second Annual Hillsboro Girls Duals event. There were 10 teams invited to participate in the event, which ultimately was won by Lebanon. Hillsboro finished in eighth place.

Head Coach Jeffrey Hoese was complimentary of his squad, noting that it’s tough to win duals with only seven wrestlers. He said, “I was pleased with the way the girls wrestled today. Even during losses, they all showed some serious grit, fighting to the buzzer. With the District tournament coming up soon, this was a good meet to identify areas that we need to focus on.”

In the first dual, Seckman defeated Hillsboro 39-30. There were three contested weight classes, of which Hillsboro won one. Grace Johnson, at the 127 lb. weight class, pinned her opponent in 57 seconds.

Next, Lindbergh defeated Hillsboro 48-30. Of the five contested weight classes, Hillsboro won three, all by pin. Katie Hendrix, at 137, pinned her opponent in 1:35. At 235, Marissa Hudman also won by pin, in 1:58, and at 112, Mika Barciszewski earned a pin in 1:34.

Then, Lebanon defeated Hillsboro 78-6. Of the seven contested weight classes, Hillsboro won one. At 174, Alleigh Culley pinned her opponent in 1:35.

After that, Hillsboro defeated Mehlville 33-12. However, Hillsboro lost the only contested weight class.

Lastly, Ft. Zumwalt North defeated Hillsboro 39-33. Of the four contested weight classes, Hillsboro won three. At 195, Culley pinned her opponent in 43 seconds. Then at 235, Hudman won by decision 4-2, while Barciszewski, at 112, pinned her opponent in 53 seconds.

Hoese mentioned a few of his outstanding performers on the day. He said, “Johnson had a great day. She came up just short in a tough match against a state qualifier. Barciszewski is also starting to hit her groove, improving with each match.”

This duals event ends the regular season for the Hillsboro girls. Their next event is on Saturday January 30, which will be the SEMO Girls Conference tournament. Hillsboro Girls Wrestling Team Hosts 2nd Annual Tournament
