Another Friday rolls around and things are heating up in the land of High School football. There are four big games on the docket, with a handful of undefeated teams either trying to extend perfection or waiting to feel crestfallen for the first time this year. Regardless, these talented young men will leave it all on the field as they do every week. Let’s get into it.
First off we have the perfect 5-0 Festus Tigers coming off a big win in their annual clash with the rival Hawks. Coming out on top in the battle for Highway A was a tough challenge, but things won’t get any easier this week as the Tigers face off against the 4-2 Raiders of North County. Festus will look to keep their spot atop the conference standings intact.
Next up is another conference clash with the Jefferson R7 Blue Jays taking on the Valle Catholic Warriors. The 2-1 Blue Jays are coming off a two-week hiatus, and they will likely need all of that extra rest as they have their work cut out for them against the 5-0 Warriors. This game holds a lot of weight and will likely be a tipping point in the Jays’ season.
The Ste. Genevieve Dragons (2-4) are the next squad to have a tall order on their schedule this Friday. They have to travel to Central for a conference showdown against the undefeated Rebels. At 5-0 the Rebs surely wont be pushovers, but the reinvented Dragons have won their last two and are primed for an upset. If ever there was a time… this may as well be it.
Lastly, the Hillsboro Hawks, coming off a tough loss to the rival Festus Tigers last week, will look to right the ship against the Owls of Windsor. The Hawks sit at 2-3 and could use a big conference win as they travel to Windsor to play the 2-2 Owls. The Hawks had two convincing wins before falling to Festus, so maybe they can recapture some of that magic.
Get ready folks… it’s October and Football Friday is getting intense. The road ahead should be filled with bumps, bruises, chills and thrills. See you at the game.
