We at Ameritime Sports are proud of the team-first atmosphere surrounding the many programs that we cover. It’s a respectful and humble culture that leads to success on a variety of spectrums, but that doesn’t mean that we’re going to shy away from championing an individual who had a truly impressive performance within the week.
We’ve teamed up with the good people at Pettus Automotive to bring you a feature that will highlight one student athlete’s outstanding individual performance every week. Whether on the gridiron, golf course, field, diamond or hardwood, there is always someone doing something special. And we thought you’d all like to know about it.
This week the honor goes to John-Paul Sauer of the Jackson Indians. He’s the ace of the staff of a surging 16-5 Jackson squad and has already committed to play D1 ball at Tulane University as a Junior.
This week Sauer had two starts and was virtually untouchable in both. On Tuesday he took on the Cape Central Tigers and threw a complete-game no-hitter with eight strikeouts in a 16-0 win. That set him up to pitch on the biggest stage imaginable on Sunday, where he mowed down the Edwardsville Tigers at Busch Stadium. Sauer went seven innings, didn’t allow an earned run or issue a free pass and struck out nine to earn the victory.
The gifted right-handed hurler has started five games this season and is 4-0 with a 0.00 ERA. That’s right. He hasn’t allowed an earned run in any of his 28.1 innings pitched and has given up just five hits and two walks while fanning 40 opponents.
With his right arm and not his words, Sauer is flat out making a bold statement that he is unquestionably one of the best pitchers in the state, and possibly the country.
Efforts of that magnitude do not go unnoticed.
Thanks to Pettus Automotive for making this possible, and congratulations to John-Paul Sauer on one heck of a week.
John-Paul will receive a $25 gift card to Mary Jane Bourbon & Smokehouse for his impressive accomplishments.
See you all next week.
