The Hillsboro Hawks Varsity Wrestling program began its season this past Wednesday, December 1st, in a quad meet taking place at Affton High School. Both the Boys and Girls Hawks squads took on the Affton Cougars, the St. Pius Lancers and the Herculaneum Black Cats in the dual style meet. The Hawks won all six duals in convincing fashion to start off the season 3-0 for both teams.
The Girls team began the night with a big win against Herculaneum 18-6. Eddyson Reeves and Ella Bingman each won their matches by pin in under two minutes.
The Boys followed suit and crushed the Black Cats 70-3. CJ Bauer, Jackson Tucker, Eddie Hines, Evan Morris, Dalton Litzsinger, Hunter Rhodes, Jack Gaertner and Jordan Penick all won by pin.
Against St. Pius, the Girls team was pushed slightly, but still won 24-12. Bingman, and Emma Pitts each won by pin.
On the Boys side, the Hawks soared again, easily winning 72-12. This time, Bauer, Nicholas Green and Rhodes all won by pin. In an extra match, Skyler Melton won by pin as well.
Finally, the Hawks took on the host school, the Affton Cougars. Again, the Girls team was in no trouble, walking over their opposition 24-0. Riley Thomas earned a pin in 1:02 in the only match.
The Boys also handled their business, shutting out their foes 78-0. Kaden Larkin, Tucker, Blake Jackson, Sam Richardson, Morris, Griffin Ray, Litzsinger, Rhodes, and Barrett Silhavey all won by pin. Hillsboro won three extra matches as well, with Hunter Broeker, Dawson Owens and Melton all picking up pins.
It was a strong start to the season, but the competition wasn’t that stiff with plenty of forfeits mixed in. However, it’s always nice to get your feet wet and pick up some confidence before the real heavy hitters enter the lineup. Knowing Hillsboro, they will be ready when that time comes.
